Richard hart, psy.d.

REGISTERED psychological associate (PSB94025919)

I am Dr. Richard Hart, a clinical psychological associate for Dr. Katie Enney. I began my educational journey into clinical psychology in 2008 with the obtainment of my Bachelor of Arts degree in 2013 from California Lutheran University. My educational path did not remit at that point.  From there, I went on to obtain my Master of Science (2017) in clinical psychology, and in turn, my Doctor of Psychology (2021), both from California Southern University.

I specialize in the individual psychodynamic treatment of Tweens, Adolescents, and Adults at all stages in their lifespan, whose following diagnoses can be observed at any life stage: Mood Disorders (and Bipolar Disorders), Trauma and Stressor-Related disorders, Anxiety Disorders (i.e., panic, phobic, obsessional, and socially inhibited disorders), and some diagnoses which comprise the neurodevelopmental spectrum (e.g. ADHD, and ASD).

Psychodynamic psychotherapy fundamentally rests upon how or why the past continues to influence the present and future, all the while without any conscious or rational, or logical understanding of this phenomenon. In other words, most emotional pain and suffering are couched in the deep-seated unconscious portion of the psyche. While it remains there, the above diagnoses (or symptoms) manifest in full effect pending their permission to gain access to consciousness. This can be achieved, usually and only, while undergoing a treatment of this kind.

Hence, the therapeutic relationship is indispensable to this process. Without this, the pathogenesis of symptoms could never be known, worked through, or resolved. This alliance is built upon empathy, authenticity, and trust, in a safe and supportive environment.

It is my conviction that psychotherapy is a two-way street, no different than any other relationship. This means there is a mutual commitment to the therapy process. Change is brought about only with consistency. This holds good no matter what the severity or kind of mental disturbance that is being dealt with. By submitting oneself to such a pervasive process, individual curative needs are met, and goals are attained.

I am supervised by Katie Enney, Psy.D. (PSY28571). You can reach me at richard@thrivetherapycollective.com or (805) 433-5986.
